Students in Lisa Heineman's course on "Jews, Judaism, and Social Justice" prepared a Social Justice Seder - the traditional Passover celebration of liberation from enslavement in Egypt, updated to address themes of liberation and social justice today.

This picture is about Professor Heineman and her students
Professor Heineman, students, and guests read from the Haggadah
prepared by students in the class. Students prepared artwork,
poetry, music, and commentary to accompany the meal.

The Seder plate, designed by students, includes traditional items like an egg and bitter herbs,
handmade matzo to symbolize mindfulness about food, Sephardic charoset (a sweet fruit mixture)
to represent diversity within the Jewish community, and an orange to symbolize gender and sexual diversity.
